Public Forest Access Roads
There are over 600 miles of all-weather roads maintained on State Forests. These roads, along with other seasonal-use-only roads, provide the primary access system to the lands for recreationists. The roads are constructed
to standards that will provide reasonably
safe travel and to keep maintenance
costs to a minimum. Turnoff, parking areas and cul-de-sacs provide space for the recreationists to leave their vehicles while enjoying the forests. Parking areas for horse riding enthusiasts
include a stabling area, track area and even primitive camping sites for their use. These areas are reached from the public forest access road system.
The smaller seasonal-use-only roads are often developed as a result of a timber
sale. While the sale is in progress, these “haul” roads provide the timber harvester with the means to enter and extract forest products from the sale area. Once the sale is completed, the roads are usually removed from motorized
use and become available for hiking, mountain biking, skiing and snowmobiling.

The Statewide Comprehensive Recreation Plan (SCORP) is prepared periodically by the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation (OPRHP) to provide statewide policy direction and to fulfill the agency's recreation and preservation mandate. The updated SCORP serves as a status report and as an overall guidance document for the recreation resource preservation, planning, and development through 2014.

Members of the public are invited to comment on the Draft 2009-2014 SCORP Plan at the public hearing on November 5th, 2008. If you are not able to attend the meeting, written comments are welcome and will be considered for the draft plan if they are received by November 21, 2008 to:

Robert W. Reinhardt
Director for Resource and Facility Planning
Bureau of Planning
Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation
Agency Building 1
Empire State Plaza
Albany, NY 12238
Phone:518-486-2909

I think we should ALL go to the meeting...I'm not kidding.

I may know this director too... I used to service a Bob Reinhardt Early 70's convertible Granville... He was an OK guy...
I'm sure it's not him.. :smt017

I was Hoping Steve or maybe brill will speak there ??

Us putting a pettition together could not hurt? Even if it's with Online signatures? Kirsch could run with this?

Media / press release / etc.... Scott could jump on it...

I'll set it up the presentation or comment opportunity ?

It the only way to let them know we are not going to go away...Take it to their doorsteps..I say...

I think we should do theis..Unless someone see's a reason not too?

This is the key, we need to be able to clearly understand what this document says, what we support and what we take issue with.

We'll "WE " as in all us , really don't need to know...

Steve and/or Brill does...

And Steve already does know....

But a question Steve.. As a member of the trail committee, can you, are you prepared to tell the state and you counterparts it's not fair?

Are you guys suggesting each of us speaks? That's not such a bad idea either....

I envision One person going up there as a spokes man for all of us...But we certianly would get more timeshare...With individuals up there.

????

I think it's important the everyone understand what our speaker is saying. It's not as important that we each and every one of us speak, but it is important that we don't appear to be a mindless mob blindly supporting the one guy. We need to all have a good general grasp of the situation, but no we don't all have to be experts on it.

Simply, read the Scorp...

And please let's not get bogged down with the lyttle stuff... There isn't much time...

An off-roader that is and has been concerned with this stuff...Will know what is being said... The rest can can stand there and nod, and learn... and go home, and get up to speed...

A brief summary would be good... If that's what you guys would want...

Let's wait for a response from steve...

I agree with Steve, Read the SCORP.

Open the document, second page down (actually page 62) paragraph about "State Forests", .. This is where we are concerned. We are not included in the laundry list of Recreation Activities claiming the Need to Space w/in the State Forests.

And we can provide a Solution for providing space for 4x4 use.

Show the Need, provide a Solution.
